(only the <b>Direct Method</b> will be covered) <br> <b>10.30am - 12.30pm:</b> <b>Start a Small Mosaic</b> such as a Hotpot Stand, Coasters or a Small Mirror. <br> <b>12.30pm - 1.30pm:</b> LUNCH - Time to reflect and gather your inspiration. <br> <b>1.30pm - 4.30pm:</b> Finish Tiling. <b>Grouting and Finishing Methods and Techniques,</b> We shall also look at the effects which can be achieved with <b>Coloured Grout.</b> <br> <b>4.30pm - 5.30pm:</b> Finish your mosaic with <b>Final Polishing and Finishing</b> Grout Techniques <br><br> Example of a Typical <b>THREE DAY COURSE</b> Itinerary<br><br> <b>Day One<br><br> <img alt="Student with tiles" src="i/tu1.jpg" > <img alt="Student tiling" src="i/tu2.jpg" ><br></b> <b>9.30am - 12.30pm, 1.30pm - 5.30pm:</b> We will start with the basics of Mosaic Making <br>Practice <b>Tile Cutting and Shaping,</b><br> Study <b>Andamento</b> and Various <b>Opera,</b><br> (Tile Laying Techniques for Line, Flow and Definition)<br> </b>Health and Safety,</b><br> <b>Materials and Tools.</b><br> Plan your personalised project,<br> Discuss and Experiment with <b>Colour and Design, <br>Direct and Indirect Mosaic Applications, </b><br><b>Adhesives. </b><br> <br><b>*For students with an initial understanding and experience of mosaic making</b> we will look in more depth at <b>Colour Theory, Light and Shade, Line and Form, Perspective and Composition. </b><br> A mosaic maker will be able to interpret and predict the viewers feelings about the artwork, manipulating the tiles and gaps to draw the eye gently around the mosaic and control the rhythm of the mosaic.<br> <b>The 'Andamento' - flow or coursing, movement lines in a mosaic are very important and we shall look in detail at the gap or intercies and it's effect on the composition of the mosaic.<br> The 'Opera' - Various 'Opus' - tile laying techiques will be explored and experimented </b>on so that you can achieve the desired mosaic effect and create an impressionable mosaic artwork.<br> <br><b>Lunch will be provided 12.30pm - 1.30pm </b>(see our menus) and refreshments will be available all day.<br> <br><br><b>Day Two<br><br> <img alt="Student with finished tiling" src="i/wed1.jpg" > <img alt="Student with finished tiling" src="i/wed2.jpg" > <br>9.30am - 12.30pm, 1.30pm - 5.30pm: </b>Tile Your Mosaic - As a general guide a completed square mosaic that measures 35cm x 35cm or a circular mosaic of a 42cm diameter should be achievable on a 3 day course, depending on the complexity of the design.<br>Today we will aim to complete the surface mosaic tiling ready for overnight drying.<br><br> <b>Lunch will be provided 12.30pm - 1.30pm </b>(see our menus) and refreshments will be available all day<br><br> <br><b>Day Three<br><br> <img alt="Student grouting" src="i/thu1.jpg" > <img alt="Student grouting" src="i/thu2.jpg" ><br> 9am - 1pm, 2.30pm - 5.30pm:</b> <b>Grouting</b> , Complete your project with grout.<br>We shall also look at the effects which can be achieved by changing grout colour. <br><b>Acrylic and Pigment Colouring Techniques for Ready Mix and Powder Grouts.</b> <br><b>Final Polishing </b>and Finishing Techniques.<br> <br>*For students with an initial understanding and experience of mosaic making we will look in more depth at grout colour.
